Hand Sewing

Sewing is the act of stitching one piece of fabric to another. Think of it like collage, but instead of attaching pieces of paper together with glue, you use stitches to hold pieces of fabric in place. When one piece of fabric is sewn on top of another to create a fabric picture, it is called appliqué. When two pieces of fabric are joined with stitches and the piece is stuffed to make a pillow or transformed into a functional holder like a pouch, then that is sewing. Many of the techniques and stitches used in embroidery are also used in sewing.
